Mahindra & Mahindra is set to unveil a new pickup truck based on the Scorpio N platform at an event on Thursday, August 14, coinciding with Independence Day celebrations. Derived from the 2023 Global Pik Up concept, the pickup is expected to reach Indian showrooms in the coming months. The company is also likely to showcase updated variants of its BE 6 electric SUV at the event.
According to teaser images revealed by the company, the pickup will retain the Scorpio N’s overall silhouette and ladder-frame chassis but feature redesigned front and rear sections. It is expected to get L-shaped daytime-running lamps, redesigned headlights and a honeycomb-pattern grille.
The double-cab pickup will feature an extended load bay, which could require a wheelbase longer than the Scorpio N’s 2,750 mm. At the rear, the truck is expected to get slim, C-shaped tail-lamps and a tailgate with raised Mahindra branding.
Mahindra appears to be positioning the pickup as a lifestyle vehicle combining everyday usability with the utility of a separate cargo bed.
Mahindra Scorpio N-based pickup: Cabin and features
The cabin is expected to feature a large vertically oriented touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster and a thicker three-spoke steering wheel inspired by the Vision T concept.
Dual-zone climate control could be operated through rotary dials for easier use on uneven terrain. Mahindra had earlier indicated that the Global Pik Up could feature Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), semi-automatic parking, 5G connectivity and a sunroof, although the final specifications may vary by market.
Mahindra Scorpio N-based pickup: Engine, gearbox and 4WD
The pickup is expected to use the Scorpio N’s existing engine range, including a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing up to 203 hp and 380 Nm, and a 2.2-litre diesel engine delivering up to 175 hp and 400 Nm.
Both engines are likely to be offered with six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes, along with two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive options.
As Mahindra offers four-wheel drive option on only its diesel Scorpio-N offerings, the 4WD version of the pickup truck is expected to be offered with the diesel mill and it could get terrain modes for gravel, mud, sand and snow.
Mahindra Scorpio X? Price, rivals and name
The new pickup is expected to be priced between Rs 16 lakh and Rs 26 lakh, ex-showroom, positioning it above the Scorpio N and below rivals such as the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu V-Cross.
Mahindra has not confirmed the vehicle’s final name. However, the company had registered the Scorpio-X trademark in 2024, but it has not been used so far, raising the possibility that it could be applied to the new pickup.
More details are expected when Mahindra officially unveils the vehicle on August 14.
