On Thursday, the Jammu division of the Northern Railway signed an agreement with the State Bank of India (SBI). The deal will extend the cash pickup facility to 18 more railway stations. This brings the total number of stations covered under the arrangement to 67.
The main goal is to strengthen revenue security and streamline cash management. It also reduces the workload on station staff. The new system will help keep cash safe and move it quickly to the bank.
Under the agreement, SBI will collect cash from the stations and transport it safely to the bank. It will then deposit the money on time. This reduces the need for stations to hold large amounts of cash for long periods.
Previously, stations without the cash pickup facility had to keep accumulated revenue for several days. This exposed the cash to security risks and added responsibility for station managers and booking staff. Transporting cash safely to banks was also difficult and could cause delays.
With the expanded facility, the railways expect better security of station revenue. It will bring greater transparency in financial accounting and faster cash management operations. Staff can focus more on passenger services.
Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Jammu, said passenger safety and revenue security are top priorities. He added that the new MoU will make cash handling more secure and reduce the workload of frontline staff. The aim is to implement a modern and secure financial system at every station in the division.
This expansion is seen as a key step towards safer, more transparent and modern financial management practices across the Jammu railway network. It shows the railway’s commitment to improving revenue protection and operational efficiency.
The partnership with SBI also signals the railways’ willingness to adopt new technologies and processes. It will help the division manage cash more efficiently and provide better service to passengers.
