NSE Stock Slips Below IPO Price
Shares of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) experienced a decline on Monday, September 28, touching a low of Rs 1,761 on the BSE. This movement pushed the stock below its initial public offering (IPO) issue price of Rs 1,785 per share. Despite this dip, NSE's market capitalisation remained robust at Rs 4.36 lakh crore, securing its position as the 11th-largest listed Indian company, ahead of Titan Company.
Impact on IFCI and NIACL
The decline in NSE shares triggered a fall in the stocks of its key stakeholders. IFCI, a public sector non-banking financial company (NBFC), saw its shares close 4.5% lower at Rs 70.65. New India Assurance Company Ltd (NIACL) shares also declined, closing 3.6% lower at Rs 170.25 on the same day.
The financial linkage is significant: IFCI holds a 52% stake in Stock Holding Corporation of India Ltd (SHCIL), which in turn owns a 4.4% stake in NSE. Additionally, NIACL directly holds a 1.42% stake in the exchange. Consequently, fluctuations in NSE's valuation directly impact the share prices of these holding companies.
Analyst Outlook Remains Positive
Despite the recent price correction, major brokerages have initiated coverage on NSE with constructive ratings.
- **PL Capital** assigned an 'Accumulate' rating with a price target of Rs 1,950, implying approximately 9.2% upside from the IPO price. - **Macquarie** gave an 'Outperform' rating with a target of Rs 1,965, citing NSE's market leadership, technology infrastructure, and liquidity. This represents about 10% upside. - **Emkay Global Financial Services** issued a 'Buy' rating with a September 2027 target price of Rs 2,050, suggesting around 15% potential upside.
Analysts highlighted NSE's dominant market share and comprehensive service suite as key drivers for future growth, suggesting that the current dip may not reflect long-term fundamentals.
