Criticism of GBA's Software Charge
Karnataka BJP president B Y Vijayendra has criticized the Greater Bengaluru Authority's (GBA) proposed software charge on property taxpayers, alleging that it lacks transparency and legal justification.
Details of the Charge
The GBA has proposed a software charge of Rs 200 for residential properties and Rs 1,000 for commercial buildings, which will be added to the annual property tax. Vijayendra questioned the purpose of this charge, asking citizens what exactly they are paying for.
Demand for Transparency
Vijayendra demanded that the GBA provide a clear explanation for the levy, including its legal basis, cost breakup, and public accountability. He asked the GBA to either justify the levy or withdraw it.
Reaction to the Proposal
Vijayendra expressed concerns that the Congress government is introducing new taxes without clear explanations, stating that every new excuse to generate money seems to end at the taxpayer's pocket. He also questioned whether this is not looting in broad daylight.

The BJP chief urged the GBA to provide citizens with details of the purpose, legal basis, and cost breakup of the proposed software charge.
