Passenger Discontent at Delhi T3
A group of approximately 200 SpiceJet passengers staged a protest at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) Terminal 3, citing repeated delays and rescheduling of their flights to Dubai. The disruption began on Monday, affecting travelers booked on morning and evening departures.
According to sources, the protests commenced late Monday evening as passengers remained stranded at the terminal. Airport officials have since engaged with SpiceJet executives to address the situation.
Airline Response and Operational Issues
SpiceJet acknowledged the disruption, with a spokesperson expressing deep regret for the inconvenience caused. The airline attributed the delays to "operational reasons following the grounding of an aircraft."
Specifically, flights SG 5111 and SG 5105, which were scheduled to depart for Dubai on Monday, were rescheduled. The airline stated that it is making every effort to arrange alternate flights to accommodate the affected passengers and minimize further disruption.
Regulatory Scrutiny
This incident occurs against a backdrop of increased regulatory attention on the carrier. Last week, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu informed PTI that the Civil Aviation Ministry and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are closely monitoring SpiceJet’s financial health and operational performance.
The ongoing scrutiny highlights the broader challenges facing the airline, which has faced multiple headwinds in recent times. Passengers are advised to check their flight status directly with the airline or airport authorities for the latest updates on rebooking options.
