Milestone in Indian Aerospace Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL), a joint venture between Boeing and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), announced on Monday that it has rolled out the 400th fuselage for the AH‑64E Apache attack helicopter. The fuselage was fabricated at TBAL’s 52,000‑square‑metre plant in Hyderabad and will be shipped to the final assembly line for integration into aircraft destined for the U.S. Army and for the six Apaches scheduled for delivery to the Indian Army in 2025.
Co‑production and Global Supply Chain TBAL’s production capability is part of a broader co‑production agreement that links U.S. supply chains with Indian assembly lines. Sub‑assembly kits are manufactured in Lockheed Martin’s Troy facility in Alabama, while guidance electronics units are produced at Raytheon’s Tucson plant. These components are then transported to India for final assembly, creating high‑tech jobs locally while preserving manufacturing positions in the United States.
The joint venture was selected after a rigorous evaluation of multiple firms based on technical expertise and capability. With more than 750 engineers and technicians, TBAL employs advanced robotics, automation and aerospace manufacturing technologies to produce fuselage aerostructures for the Apache platform.
Future Plans Under the agreement, TBAL and TASL plan to explore the establishment of a dedicated final‑assembly and integration facility in India. The goal is to expand component manufacturing capabilities and support future production demands, thereby strengthening regional stability across the Indo‑Pacific.
The 400th fuselage milestone comes as the Apache helicopter has already seen approximately 1,300 units in operation across 19 countries. India’s growing role in supporting this platform highlights the maturity of the country’s aerospace ecosystem and its integration into global defence supply chains.
