Smartphone Blockage Statistics India’s Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) dashboard, as of 4 September 2026, records 58,92,226 mobile phones blocked nationwide. Of these, 36,69,085 devices were successfully traced, and 13,36,061 were recovered, yielding a recovery rate of 36.41%. These figures underscore the scale of the issue and the importance of swift action when a device is lost or stolen.
Protecting Your Data After Loss When a smartphone goes missing, treat it like a lost wallet. First, contact your telecom operator to block the SIM. Then use the CEIR or Sanchar Saathi portal to block the handset via its IMEI. Immediately inform banks, UPI and payment‑service providers, disable mobile banking, and change all critical account passwords. The CEIR platform also allows consumers to verify a handset’s authenticity before purchasing a second‑hand device, helping prevent fraud.
State‑wise Recovery Insights State‑level data reveal stark contrasts. Uttar Pradesh blocks 5,29,682 phones, traces 3,30,899 and recovers 1,56,782, achieving a 47.38% recovery rate. Delhi, however, records the lowest rate at 7.69% – only 50,867 recoveries out of 6.61 lakh traced mobiles, despite 10.47 lakh phones being blocked in the National Capital Territory. These disparities highlight the need for localized awareness campaigns and better enforcement of device‑tracking protocols.
