NCDEX Nidhi, approved by SEBI in Dec‑2025, partners with 7 AMCs and offers a Rs 10,000 distributor fee after fee reductions.
Around 30 FPOs have cleared the NISM exam, with 20 already licensed; training focuses on SIPs to replace fixed deposits, especially among younger farmers.
The platform is expanding to 15 states, integrates with agricultural extension work, and aims to become a multi‑asset hub with future equity entry.
NCDEX Nidhi: A New Rural Investment Channel In December 2025, the National Commodity Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) received in‑principle SEBI approval for its Nidhi platform, a mutual‑fund transaction portal aimed at rural and semi‑urban India. The launch brings together seven asset‑management companies—HDFC AMC, Tata AMC, Nippon India MF, Axis MF, PGIM MF, ABSL MF and LIC MF—offering a curated range of mutual‑fund products. Initially, the distributor registration fee was Rs 40,000, but after lobbying by NCDEX, the Association of Mutual‑Fund Funds (AMFI) cut it first to Rs 20,000 and later to Rs 10,000. To date, 30 farmer‑producer organisations (FPOs) have passed the NISM certification exam and secured authorised‑representative status.
FPOs Bridge the Knowledge Gap Since 2016, NCDEX has run commodity‑risk‑management training for FPOs, engaging 800‑900 collectives across 15 states. The new Nidhi initiative leverages this existing network: a single FPO with 300 members can reach 1,500 people when families are counted. Training is now bilingual (English and Hindi) and simplified, covering mutual‑fund basics, NAV, and portfolio ratios. Around 60 FPOs attempted the exam, with roughly 30 clearing it within two attempts. The platform encourages younger farmers to consider systematic investment plans (SIPs) as a more attractive alternative to fixed deposits, while older generations remain loyal to FD‑like security.
Expansion and Future Vision NCDEX is extending training into Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh, with plans to reach 15 states in total. A dedicated helpline supports newly licensed FPOs, and the platform is being integrated into existing agricultural extension programmes. According to NCDEX’s Tojo Banerjee, Nidhi is a stepping stone toward a broader multi‑asset platform, with eventual entry into the equity cash segment. Meanwhile, LIC Mutual Fund is tailoring low‑ticket products such as Pocket SIPs to ease first‑time investors into market‑linked returns. The overarching goal is to lower psychological and literacy barriers, turning FPOs into trusted financial ambassadors for rural communities.
