Aditya Birla Capital’s shares rose 2.46% in early trading, standing at Rs 405.75 at 9:28 am on Thursday. The rise followed the company’s announcement that it will enter the gold‑loan business.

The NBFC arm plans to open 200 to 300 dedicated gold‑loan branches by March 2027 in high‑potential markets. Over the next three years, it aims to establish around 1,000 gold‑loan outlets across India.

The new offering will complement the company’s existing retail and MSME lending franchises. It will provide customers with a transparent, flexible, collateral‑backed credit solution.

Customers will benefit from a mix of branch‑led service and omnichannel digital capabilities. The focus will be on clear pricing, secure handling of pledged gold, and quick loan disbursals.

Rakesh Singh, Executive Director and CEO of the NBFC, said, “Gold loans are witnessing strong structural growth in India, and our entry into this segment is a natural extension of our secured lending strategy. In a category where trust is paramount, customers seek transparency, secure handling of their gold, and the confidence that their valuable assets are in safe and trusted hands. Backed by Aditya Birla Group’s generational legacy of trust, integrity, and responsible stewardship, we are well positioned to serve these customer needs.”

In Q1 FY27, the NBFC’s assets under management rose 28% year‑on‑year to Rs 1,67,456 crore. Disbursements increased 34% to Rs 21,201 crore, and profit before tax climbed 32% to Rs 1,222 crore.
