The market ended almost flat on Monday, August 10, after a volatile session that saw the Sensex and Nifty oscillate between gains and losses. The Sensex closed up 43.27 points, or 0.06 %, at 78,542.44, while the Nifty finished 13.15 points, or 0.05 %, higher at 24,583.80.
During the day, the Nifty touched an intraday high of 24,620.95, and the Sensex reached its peak at 78,676.98. These highs were not sustained, and the indices slipped back toward the close.
Sector performance was mixed. The Nifty Midcap 100 rose 0.6 %, whereas the Nifty Smallcap 100 fell 0.3 %. In the Nifty50, Titan Company led the gains with a 3 % rise, followed by Tata Consumer Products (+2.4 %), Bajaj Finance (+2.2 %), Shriram Finance (+2 %) and Grasim (+1.7 %). On the downside, SBI dropped 2.39 %, ITC fell 1.2 %, Eternal slid 1.5 %, De Reddy’s Lab slipped 1.13 % and TCS lost 1 %.
Sector indices moved in a similar pattern. Nifty Realty climbed 1.3 %, Consumer Durable rose 0.4 %, and Private Bank increased 0.5 %. In contrast, Nifty PSU Bank fell 1.6 %, Nifty Oil & Gas declined 0.3 %, and Nifty Infra slipped 0.4 %.
Nearly 200 stocks reached 52‑week highs, including One 97 Paytm, Piramal Pharma, Global Health, Belrise Industries, Ramkrishna Forgings, Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Motherson, Lenskart Solutions, Titan Company, Dr Lal PathLabs, Sona BLW Precision Forgings, Gland Pharma, TVS Motor, Aster DM Healthcare, Laurus Labs, Aether Industries, Grasim Industries, Lloyds Metals & Energy, Exide Industries and Bharat Forge, among others.
The Indian rupee ended the day at ₹95.29 per dollar, a slight decline from the previous close of ₹95.21. The weaker currency reflects global market uncertainty.
Individual stocks moved on earnings and news. Titan Company shares rose 3 % after posting strong Q1 earnings. Akums Drugs climbed 4 % following a 56.1 % year‑on‑year net profit jump. Emcure Pharmaceuticals gained 1 % after a USFDA inspection report. Power Finance Corporation slipped 8 % amid muted earnings. Blue Cloud Softech surged 13 % after securing a $150 million SpaceX contract. Ramco Industries added 2 % on solid Q1 results. On the downside, Advanced Enzyme fell 9 % after a buyback approval, Astra Microwave dropped 6 % following weak Q1 performance, and Liberty Shoes slipped 3 % as Q1 profit fell 79.5 %.
Analyst Rupak De noted that the index remained volatile within a narrow range. The near‑to‑short‑term trend is sideways to positive, with the index holding above the short‑term 50‑EMA. The daily RSI shows a bullish crossover, and the 24,650 level remains key resistance. A decisive move above this could trigger a sustained rally, while support at 24,500 suggests potential weakness if breached.
Head Equity Research Shrikant Chouhan highlighted that the market is likely to stay range‑bound. Capital Market and Realty indices gained over 1 %, whereas PSU Banks and Defense indices fell more than 1 %. Technical levels at 24,650/78,800 and 24,700/79,000 are breakout points; a rise above could push the market to 24,800–24,850 / 79,300–79,500. Conversely, a fall below 24,500/78,300 may accelerate selling, with potential retraces to 24,400–24,350 / 78,000–77,800.
Overall, the market remains cautious as it navigates intraday volatility and seeks clear direction beyond key resistance and support levels.
