FSSAI has suspended the operating licences of two food companies, VKC Nuts Pvt Ltd in Uttar Pradesh and CHHEDA Specialities Foods Pvt Ltd in Maharashtra, citing serious hygiene violations.
An inspection of VKC Nuts revealed live insects in pistachios, heavy mould on walls, rusted and dirty machinery, and old, damaged plastic containers. A live lizard was found near the fumigation chamber and several houseflies were seen on food products. Pest‑control measures were ineffective.
The regulator also found that CHHEDA Foods was mixing besan dough with bare hands and peeling bananas on floors that were contaminated with decomposing waste. Workers were also handling food on floors next to waste piles.
FSSAI stated that the licences will remain suspended until the companies complete comprehensive corrective actions. These actions include sanitation, pest control, waste management, infrastructure repairs and staff training.
The move underscores FSSAI’s commitment to strict enforcement of food safety standards to protect consumers.
