On Friday, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) announced that the deadline for regulated entities to complete digital accessibility audits and resolve platform issues has been extended until October 31, 2026. This change gives firms additional time to meet regulatory requirements.
Previously, firms were required to finish the digital platform accessibility audit by April 30, 2025. They were also expected to remediate any findings and achieve full compliance by July 31, 2025.
The extension follows formal requests from industry stakeholders who needed more time to meet the legal requirements of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act. SEBI responded by granting the additional time.
In July 2025, SEBI issued a circular mandating all regulated entities to make their digital platforms accessible to persons with disabilities. The move was aimed at fostering inclusivity in financial services.
By giving firms until the end of October 2026, SEBI hopes to ensure that investors with disabilities have equal access to market infrastructure. It also aims to keep the financial sector compliant with the law.
Companies now have a clear timeline to address accessibility gaps and demonstrate their commitment to equal opportunity for all market participants. They are encouraged to use the extended period to make necessary improvements.
