In the wake of a student protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, a new development has surfaced concerning alleged firing at the crowd. The incident took place on July 20, during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march organized by the Cockroach Janta Party.
Doctors at Lady Hardinge Medical College performed surgery on 25‑year‑old Sheikh Irshad Mansoori, removing metallic foreign bodies from his face and neck. The extracted material was kept for further examination.
The medico‑legal certificate shows injuries but does not confirm who fired the projectiles. However, it lends weight to protesters’ claims that pellet‑like ammunition was used by security forces.
Mansoori is one of the petitioners who have approached India’s apex court, challenging the use of excessive force by Delhi Police and the Rapid Action Force during the march.
He told the press that a security personnel aimed a weapon at him before he was struck.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh said in Lok Sabha that no bullets were fired at students protesting against the NEET exam fiasco. He dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s allegations that the Home Minister ordered shooting.
Singh stressed that the authority to issue a firing order lies with a magistrate, not a minister, and that only tear gas was used, not bullets.
